As time went by and I got to know several other furry artists
I noticed that quite a large share of them seemed to wear glasses.
Then I began to check Con photographs too and came to the same
result.
Now the question at hand was: How large was that percentage
really?
For my spot check I chose, more or less randomly, 40 of the
more popular furry artists, the selection being based on
a) that I picked all those that I know more or less personally
and
b) to round it up to 40 I simply went along the alphabet on the
Furnation pages, thus hopefully avoiding too large a bias.
The Artists all received an individual email asking them whether
they wear glasses, contact lenses, other seeing aids or none.
This was done because if I simply would publicly post a request
to mail me whether they wear glasses it would shift the results.
(Since those who do wear glasses would have felt more compelled
to respond than those who didn't.)
Of the 40 Artists I mailed 37 replied, making for a pretty solid result. (with the percentages unlikely to vary more than 2 percent)
While a couple of those polled suggested that it the high percentage
might be due to working
in front of a computer screen all the time or crouching over your
drawing board with your nose
right on the paper, quite a lot of others said that they wear
glasses since they've been kids.
So, to fully evaluate these ( in my opinion impressive) results
, I will first have to do a comparative
survey of nonartist furries and nofurrypeople. Will I do it ?
